It’s a little hard to draw people away from picnics and beaches on a sunny Fourth of July weekend.
But the patriotic appeal of the USA Women’s team in the World Cup final on Sunday managed to do just that, nationally and locally.
Locally, the game averaged a 14.7 rating on WITI-TV (Channel 6), climbing from a 12.9 to a 17.9 by games end. A local rating is the equivalent of 8,932 television homes.
Nationally the game earned a 15.2 rating on Fox, a 14% jump over the previous women’s World Cup Final.
In Sunday’s game the US team beat Japan 5-2.
