My first Milwaukee Magazine Micropayment column is an interview with WKLH-FM (96.5) vice president and general manager Annmarie Topel on the fallout following the departure of morning show co-host Carole Caine. The station believes some of the outcry is part of an organized campaign.

I was on the road when the Emmy nominations were announced so consider this a belated report on any local connections. The pickings are thin. So please send me any names that I missed.
–Mequon native John Ridley was nominated for outstanding writing for a limited series for the premiere episode of his ABC drama, “American Crime.” The series was nominated as best limited run drama. The stylish and innovative show also received multiple technical awards.
–Timothy Hutton and Felicity Huffman were nominated as best actor and actress in a limited series for Ridley’s “American Crime.”
— Former Milwaukeean Mark Rylance, who attended University School, was nominated as best actor for playing Thomas Cromwell in PBS’ adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s books “Wolf Hall” and “Bring Up the Bodies.” “Wolf Hall” also competes against “American Crime” for best limited run drama.
— I’m going to give Adrien Brody unofficial state status for playing Harry Houdini, who was born in Budapest but raised in Appleton. Brody was nominated as best actor in the miniseries “Houdini.”
— “Modern Family,” created by UW-Madison alum Steve Levitan, was nominated for best comedy. It has won five previous Emmy Awards. Levitan was a reporter and morning anchor at WKOW-TV in Madison.
—Bradley Whitford was nominated as guest actor in a comedy for the Amazon series “Transparent.” Whitford, a Madison native, attended Madison East High School.

In other local media “news”:
–WITI-TV (Channel 6) sports director will be off the air for a few weeks for knee surgery.
–The Journal Sentinel is reporting that WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) reporter Tom Murray is leaving broadcasting to join the ministry. Fun fact: His WTMJ bio lists him as six foot, seven inches tall. In other WTMJ news, is this the week a new anchor will be announced to replace Mike Jacobs?

–Leigh McNabb, former assistant program director, music director and midday host at WXSS-FM (103.7), is joining Entercom sister station KZPT-FM in Kansas City as program director. She replaces former WMYX-FM (99.1) producer and assistant program director Tony Lorino, who was named program director for Entercom’s WSTR-FM in Atlanta.
