Tempted as you might have been to turn off the Green Bay Packer vs. Detroit Lions game in the first quarter, if you stuck with it you witnessed what announcer Jim Nanz dubbed the Miracle in Motown.
Aaron Rodgers slung the longest game winning, game ending pass in NFL history following a penalty which led to a play after the game was seemingly over.
Perhaps because it was also being presented on the NFL Network, the game’s preliminary average of 39.0 on CBS affiliate WDJT-TV (Channel 58), while impressive was about five rating points lower than this season’s average.
The game scored its highest rating of the night – a 40.0 – at about 10:30 p.m. when all looked lost for the Packers who regained the ball with 30-seconds remaining,
Shockingly, or not so shockingly, football crushed a special live presentation of “The Wiz,” a musical version of “The Wizard of Oz,” on NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV (Channel 4).
“The Wiz” earned a 5.4 rating opposite the football game. Early in the game frustrated Packer fans on social media wrote they would rather watch it than see the Packers lose. Again.
“The Wiz,” however earned respectful reviews. According to “the production” – which featured an all African-American cast, “exploded with color and impressive vocal performances.”
