Finally! An opponent the Green Bay Packers can beat.
The Packers telecast on NBC affiliate WTMJ-TV (Channel 4) beat the Crawley family of the esteemed PBS series “Downton Abbey,” the way the Minnesota Vikings crushed the Packers into the frozen tundra.
The premiere of the sixth and final season of “Downton” on “Masterpiece Theater” was second highest rated show of the night, earning a 4.5 rating for Milwaukee Public Television station WMVS-TV (Channel 10). But the top rated show was of course the Packers prime time loss to the Vikings.
The game – I hesitate to call it a contest – earned a possibly season high 51.2 rating, or more than ten times that of “Downton.”
A typical Packers rating this season has been in the mid 40s.
I like others DVRd “Downton” and have yet to find time to watch it.
But I did notice a steady stream of “Downton” commentary on Twitter during the game.
An important skill in the golden age of TV is giving up on shows when they get bad. Otherwise you end up watching season six of Downton.

A local rating point is the equivalent of 8,822 television homes.
Meaning, 451,686 TV homes watched the game and 36,699 watched “Downton”
