Time for another bunch of low hanging fruit from the Milwaukee media tree

Marquette University alum Nick D’Agosto has what Deadline Hollywood calls the “sought after lead role” in the upcoming NBC series pilot  described as a  “documentary style procedural comedy.”

It is a fish out of water tale about a New York lawyer defending a poetry professor played by John Lithgow accused of murdering his wife in a small Southern town.

D’Agosto, a Nebraska native, is currently appearing on “Gotham,” and previously appeared on “Masters of Sex,” “E.R.,’ “House,” “The Office” and “Six Feet Under.”

WUWM Chosen For National Storytelling Experiment

Public radio station WUWM-FM won a national competition to “incubate storytelling” and expose public media to more listeners, the station announced Monday.

It is one of 15 stations selected as part of a national competition to participate in a project called “Localore: Finding America” in which “gifted producers and forward thinking stations” develop “new media models.”

Award winning WUWM breaks storytelling mold

Tucked inside the long list of awards given to local radio and television stations by the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association over the weekend, were two that were never broadcast.

That they were in categories that didn’t even exist not that many years ago, reflects the changing nature of news gathering and reporting in the digital age.

The awards – best niche website and best use of user-generated content – went to Milwaukee public radio station WUWM-FM (89.7), which also won awards for hard news and editorial commentary.

Today, witness a flurry of Milwaukee area media notes that have recently filled the inbox.

IHeartMedia, aka Clear Channel Communications, has named Colleen Valkoun market president for its Madison and Milwaukee radio station cluster.  She replaces Jeff Tyler, who held the position since 2012 and was named president of Clear Channel’s Minneapolis station cluster in January.

Valkoun served as interim market president since his departure. She was national sales manager for the Milwaukee and Madison stations and worked in sales at Saga Communications from 1992-2003.
