Milwaukee radio & TV stations win ten Murrow Awards

Local broadcasters came away with multiple regional Murrow Awards for journalistic excellence, announced by the Radio Television Digital News Association.  Wisconsin stations compete with large market stations in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota in the Region 4 category.

Winners include:

RADIO

WTMJ-AM (620), for Newscast (); Breaking News ();

WISN-AM (1130), for Writing ();

WUWM-FM (89.7), for Continuing Coverage (Dontre’s Death); News Series (Black Men in Prison)

Wisconsin Public Radio, for Hard News Reporting (25 Below and Homeless);

TELEVISION

WISN-TV (Channel 12), for Newscast (; Breaking News ();

WTMJ-TV (Channel 4), for Website

WITI-TV (Channel 6), for Hard News ();

Minnesota stations dominated the awards: Minnesota Public radio earned five; WCCO-AM three; KTSP-TV, one and KARE-TV won six, including Writing for former WITI reporter Boyd Huppert’s story about a friendship between a 3-year old boy and an 89-year old World War II veteran that went viral.

It is his 13th Murrow Award. Read my interview with Huppert.
