—Reports of the demise, after three decades, of classic rock on WKLH-FM (96.5) last week were premature. The station may have shifted its “center of gravity” from 1970s rock to 1980s but, except for a little more Bon Jovi, the musical change is almost too subtle to be detected. As the station noted the shedding of the word “classic” was mostly about image.
The music being played certainly sounds awfully familiar. Sampling the station over the weekend, one heard familiar refrains by Steve Miller, U2, the Eagles, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Phil Collins, Styx, Z.Z. Top, Fleetwood Mac and the Rolling Stones. In March the station ranked seventh among total listeners.
—Set your DVR: “Dick Cavett’s Vietnam,” directed by Fox Point native John Scheinfeld, premieres Monday on WMVT-TV (Channel 36) at 9 p.m., with repeats there and on Channels 10.1, 10.2 and 36.2 through May 3. The program features interviews conducted by Cavett on his talk show during the Vietnam war era. Read my interview with him here.
—It makes him a jolly good fellow: By day Jeff Wagner is a conservative talk show host on WTMJ-AM (620). But in his free time he is a craft beer enthusiast, partial to brews by the Minneapolis based Surly and Sheboygan brewer Three Sheep. Read my story about how he developed that interest, here.
—I did not know that: Fox News host and Appleton native Greta van Susteren .
—Former Green Bay Packer and “Dancing with the Stars” winner Donald Driver, returns to the show’s 10th anniversary broadcast Tuesday on ABC. He will also be on “Good Morning, America” Tuesday.
—The otherwise solid Bruce Jenner interview coverage on WISN-TV (Channel 12) suffered a minor glitch when station reporter Toni Valliere illustrated the reaction to the interview using Twitter and mentioned the comments of one “Carrie Bradshaw,” the fictional character on “Sex and the City.”
—Before he became known as a reality TV show performer and for his transgender status, Bruce Jenner appeared in several vintage TV shows, including “Murder, She Wrote” and “CHiPs,” and in the movie “Can’t Stop the Music,” with the Village people.
Coincidental or not his appearance on “The Love Boat,” was recently reprised on MeTV. Watch a clip of it below, as well as a scene with Jenner, in cut off jean shorts and crop shirt, and Steve Guttenberg, in “Can’t Stop the Music.” Both are quite campy.
