I took Halloween week off but stuff kept happening.

Much of it has been reported elsewhere, but here’s the recap.

Howie Magner will become interim editor of Milwaukee Magazine to replace Kurt Chandler, who announced over the weekend he was stepping down.

A national search for a permanent replacement is likely. Magner is a University of Tulsa alum who joined the magazine in 2007 as associate editor and became a senior editor in 2012. He previously spent 15 years as a newspaper sports writer and wrote about sports for the magazine. He’s on Twitter .

In my family we call this vacation weather.

And in fact we did take a few days off in a cloudy, cold Door County that was warmed considerably during a concert Monday by the Jayhawks, who turned in a solid performance like the road dogs they are.

We also rode bikes in Peninsula State Park.

And we saw “Ant Man” and “Mission Impossible” at the Skyway Drive-in theater (while @katflanigan snored) listening through the FM radio and the theater’s functioning Cylon-looking old school window speaker (which my automatic windows refused to accept.)

The Lake is causing waves.

E. W. Scripps Company has contacted a Racine station that branded itself as The Lake to assert its copyright related to the nickname.

Scripps station WLWK-FM abandoned the slogan and changed formats last week.

The Racine station WMKQ-FM (92.1) confirmed that it had been contacted by Scripps about using The Lake and that “lawyers are involved.

Steve Wexler, vice president of radio for Scripps, had no comment. He previously said no lawsuit had been filed.

WLWK changed its call letters to WKTI-FM (94.5) and switched from adult pop music to country music last Friday.

—-When asked how and by whom the music was being programmed, Tom Langmyer, vice president and general manager of Milwaukee radio operations for E. W. Scripps Company, replied in an email that he was programing the station himself.

Milwaukee media notes: WKTI returns, goes country

E.W. Scripps Company station WLWK-FM (94.5) switched call letters and formats at 10 a.m. Friday.

The station changed its call letters to WKTI-FM, the station’s “iconic” old call letters when it belonged to Journal Broadcast Group, and switched the format to country music.

Its identifying brand is 94.5 KTI Country.

The change is a clear swipe at the Clear Channel country music station WMIL-FM (106.3) which has long bedeviled WTMJ-AM (620) the now Scripps talk-news-sports-information station.
