ABC renews Ridley’s “American Crime,” “S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Nashville”

Mequon native John Ridley’s series “American Crime” has been renewed for a second season, according to TV.com.

The limited run series is set in the aftermath of a violent home invasion and follows the victims lives and the alleged perpetrators. It is also a harsh look at race relations.

It has been critically popular but the ratings have dropped by half since the premiere.

It airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. and its season finale is May 14.

Clearly, ABC is interested in being in business with Ridley, who won an Oscar for his “12 Years A Slave” screenplay. Entertainment Weekly reported Ridley is creating a “mysterious new series” with Marvel for ABC. The series reportedly features the Muslim -American superhero “Ms. Marvel.”

ABC also renewed “Castle,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D,” “Marvel’s Agent Carter,” “Nashville,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Scandal,” “Secrets and Lies,” “How to Get Away With Murder,” “Blackish,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Goldbergs,” “The Middle, and “Modern Family. ”

It cancelled “Resurrection,” “Forever” and “Cristella,” according to TV.COM.
